Roundup Litigation – Juries Hit Monsanto with Over $2 Billion in Verdicts
Roundup has been used for decades by farmers, gardeners, maintenance workers and homeowners alike who are trying to control the weeds in their yards. In fact, Roundup has been on the market since 1973. It contains the chemical glyphosate – which is the most widely used herbicide in the United States.
In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) which is a division of the World Health Organization (WHO) classified glyphosate as “probably a carcinogen” to humans after its review of about 1000 studies. The agency later found that the cancer most-predominantly associated with Roundup is non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Monsanto, the company that made Roundup from 1973-2018, maintained that it was safe. Roundup was recently sold to Bayer – a company that also maintains its safety. However, according to internal email and other internal documents used as evidence in the trials against the makers of Roundup, Monsanto has known for several decades that Roundup causes cancer.
